Welcome to Immanuel of Redondo Beach! - Home

Our mission at Immanuel is to glorify God and provide a welcoming grace oriented place for God's gifts of faith, hope and love to be nurtured and encouraged.

Come and catch God's wave of forgiveness, healing, transformation and renewal!

SUNDAY MORNING SERVICES8:00 AM - Classic Worship - Rich in the liturgy and teaching of the early church of the first few centuries, the warm and welcoming ambience of our sanctuary - with comfortable pews and kneelers, provides an ideal setting for spiritual reflection. Come and get in a faith filled position to be lifted up with the fresh power of God's forgiveness, healing and renewing grace.

9:40 AM - Heart to Heart Express Bible Study & Informal Worship - Join us in a casual informal gathering in the Sanctuary. Heartfelt worship and praise with folk and contemporary music makes this more than just a regular Bible study. Beside a "lectio divina" dialog, we are also studying the early 16th century ecumenical document called the Augsburg Confession. Copies of the Augsburg Confession and study notes are provided at the gathering. Come with your questions and observations for a great time of discussion and spiritual faith formation!

With Sunday school offered at 9:30 AM, this gathering gets out a little earlier - around 10:30 AM, with a time of prayer for special needs following the meeting. So, this is also an ideal setting for those with only a short amount of time on a Sunday morning to worship and also be spiritually fed.

On the second, fourth and fifth Sundays of the month, Holy Communion is offered at Heart-to-Heart. Many of the folks who attend the 8 AM Classic Worship also attend this service - as the two services provide a rich variety of old and new forms of worship and interaction. In addition to the teaching series in "Heart-to-Heart," we also have adult Bible studies on the Book of Revelation and also a class on Christian Parenting issues. Please call the church office for further details.

11:00 AM - Blended Worship - This is a popular fusion blend of worship styles that combines the best of historic liturgy and contemporary music - along with a positive grace filled message from God's Word for daily living. As with the 8 AM Service, Holy Communion is offered on the first and third Sundays of the month. Come as you are and experience the fresh blessing of God's Spirit in an uplifting manner.

What We Believe - What We Believe

Being Lutheran, we accept the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther which can be summarized in three short phrases. Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace alone
God loves the people of the world, even though we are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love and bring us back into a proper relationship with Him.

Faith alone
By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for us all. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have eternal life. God creates our faith in Christ and gives us forgiveness through Him.

Scripture alone
The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

Who is Jesus?
No one else has influenced history as He has. Jesus is the Son of God. Old Testament prophets spoke of His coming and described the eternal and life-changing impact He would have. Jesus is both God and man. He stilled the seas and walked on water. With a touch of His hand, he cured incurable diseases. He restored life to those who had physically died.

Jesus personifies love
He paid the ultimate price so that we can live with Him forever. He sees us through the eyes of love. He loves us in spite of every hurtful thought, every harmful word, and every wrongful action. These are the result of sin, which contaminates everything we do. It is behind every broken home, every empty life, every infirmity, every damaged emotion, every sorrow and grief. And as the Bible says, the end result of sin is death. But Jesus himself was sinless; only He could pay the penalty for our sins. Because of His love, He suffered, died and rose again. We are forgiven. All who believe in Jesus are guaranteed eternal life with Him in heaven.

What difference Does Jesus Make?
Suffering and pain touch everyone. At times life seems like an endless cycle of hopelessness. Even Christians, who claim that Jesus is the source of hope amidst their struggles, still suffer. They still struggle. They still die. So, what\'s the point? What difference does Jesus make? First, look at the brokeness that invades your life - those things that cause guilt, shame, and grief. They exist because of a condition called sin. Sin separates us from God and robs us of the peace, comfort and hope we desperately crave. And no matter how hard we try, there isn\'t anything we can do to make things right again on our own. That\'s where Jesus comes in! Jesus knows the misery we feel. Jesus makes the difference at that very point - when our pain leads us to cry for help. Jesus is God\'s answer to our cry. Jesus took the punishment we deserve. He died in your place so that you can be forgiven. Because you are forgiven, you can have comfort of knowing you are at peace with God. And because of what Jesus has done for you, your past is forgiven, your present can be lived with confidence, and your future is guaranteed. For all who believe in Jesus, an everlasting world - without suffering, sin and death - is assured. This glorious place called heaven is where you will see Jesus face to face!

That's the difference Jesus makes!

Please join your friends at Immanuel, as we grow in faith together!

Mercy Outreach at Immanuel - Mercy Ministries

"... the LORD has told you what is good. This is what the LORD requires from you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to live humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8, God's Word Translation)"So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith." (Galatians 6:10)

Here at Immanuel Lutheran we value equipping God's people for works of mercy and grace. Like the disciples who first worked out of Jerusalem to Samaria and than to the other parts of the world, we also have a concentric ring plan that engages in acts of mercy and compassion in our local community and also to the world at large.

In our local community we support many projects that reach out to needy families. For example, at Christmas we provide an opportunity to individuals to give to poor families a special Christmas toy that brings joy and happiness. In addition our ladies (LWML) at Immanuel work hard at raising support for local social care ministries like "His House" and making quilts (Sewing in Love) for the disadvantaged across the border in Mexico. Also, each week members and friends of Immanuel Church and preschool drop off canned, non perishable food items, etc. to donate to the Lutheran Social Services. This ministry has an excellent reputation of being fiscally responsible in helping the homeless, the abused, and the frail. It is through this ministry that hundreds of thousands of people and their families are aided each year. This ministry reaches those in need of counseling, emergency services, job training, transitional housing, help for the elderly, utility assistance, and much more.

A little further out and into the urban areas, we are in a growing partnership with the Nehemiah Project, which is a new ministry to reach the Los Angeles inner city. This ministry is to people in every life situation: addiction problems, runaway youth, gangs, prostitution, children who come from homes where neither a father or mother exist, the hundreds of single-parent homes, the de-churched and those with broken lives who need to regain hope.

Music Director: Ray Kenetsky - Meet our Staff

"Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things..."(Psalm 9:1)

New to our church is Ray Kenetsky. In addition to church music experiences, Ray has also worked in the entertainment industry as arranger, orchestrator and composer. Currently Ray is Frankie Avalon's conductor. In the past Ray has also worked with Tina Turner, Herbie Hancock, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Maynard Ferguson and other notable celebrities. He also has numerous television and film credits to his name.

Here at Immanuel in Redondo Beach we highly value the developing of spiritual gifts and volunteer service in the area of music and worship. Perhaps you would like to play the hand bells on Sunday morning? Or, maybe God is leading you to join in the fun and fellowship of a vibrant choir?

God loves a cheerful giver and one of the best ways of worshiping God and also spreading that cheer is to contribute your time during this Christmas season in the house of the Lord.

So, if you have instrumental or singing gifts in pop, folk, classical or jazz traditions than consider the possibility that God might want you to plant your seed of faithful service to the Lord at Immanuel in Redondo Beach - especially this Christmas season as we sing a new song to the Lord!

Jess Knauft - Senior Pastor - Meet our Staff

Hi!

My role as Senior Pastor is to provide apostolic leadership to our faith community. Along with highlighting the Good News of forgiveness at the Cross, I place a high value on making sure that all of my Sunday messages and various teaching sessions are grace oriented, uplifting, Biblically motivational and also deeply relevant for those who are going through various transitions in life.

Besides the work involved in public speaking and teaching various classes, I am involved in the day to day administrative aspect of making sure our various ministries and programs effectively connect with our faith community's outreach and in-reach. An important ministry objective, for me, is to work with volunteers to experience the joy and passion in serving in God’s Kingdom with their unique gifts and talents.

While we are going through a very difficult financial time as a nation and you may be feeling the crunch as well, remember that God desires to prosper you spiritually in the things that money can't buy. So, as you consider further participation at Immanuel in Redondo Beach, my cyber-prayer for you is that "you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers." (3 John 2)

John Hanke - Minister of Family Life - Meet our Staff

“Do good to all people, especially the household of God.” (Galations 6:10)John’s ministry primarily is involved in “family life” programs that especially ministers to the frail and elderly, as well as working with local/global programs that demonstrate social concern and advocacy for the “least, the last and the lost.” Through John’s ministry, here at Immanuel Lutheran, concrete, specific ways of demonstrating God’s kindness are highlighted through short term programs of local and global social concern and care. Overseeing the Stephen ministry, the weekly collecting of food for the poor, the relief emphasis for hurricane and tsunami victims and the calling on shut-ins/hospitalized are some examples of what John does. In addition, John also teaches an adult class on Sunday morning, helps run our children’s church at 11 AM and interacts with the little children at our preschool through devotional talks.“Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles,” (James 1:27)
