Who We Are

Pastor Jess Knauft

In Colossians 2:6-7 we read: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

This call to deep spirituality involves taking seriously the call to sit at the feet of Jesus and be his disciple (Matthew 28:19). It is the reason why our church places such a high value on preaching (Word & Sacraments), teaching and various social gatherings where Christian fellowship takes place.

Jeremiah 29:11 states: For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

As pastor at Immanuel Church in Redondo Beach, I have a passion to offer a meaningful theology of hope. That is why you will notice all my Sunday messages and various teaching sessions strive to be relevant for those who are going through life with all of its complexities and challenges.

Besides public speaking, counseling and teaching various classes, I am involved in the day to day administrative aspect of the church - e.g. making sure our various ministries and programs effectively connect with the heartfelt needs of people. I believe in lifting people up, with the grace of God, so they can be a blessing to others!

Our Diaconal Ministers

Our recently licensed trans-local diaconate is a group of people committed to service in and for the Church, a group which has its roots in the New Testament and has a history of development and usage in the Church catholic from its beginnings to the present.

In our Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church (LCMS), there is lengthy education and practical instructional time required to be licensed for this type of ministry. At Immanuel, liturgical garb for the diaconate follows the church’s historic usage as regards deacons. Deacons wear the diaconal stole as a mark of their office and these colors change in accordance with the church year.

At Immanuel, our licensed Diaconal Ministers may serve at the divine service including the communion liturgy - using the reserved sacrament. Currently, here at Immanuel, the following serve in this capacity: Bill Abbott, Arvid Strode & Dr. Colin Lambert.

Our Youth Activities

We have an active youth group from elementary school to college age.  One notable activity we participate in is the LCMS National Youth Convention.  See the video below that captured the events of this magnificent Spirit filled event share by 25,000 of our youth from across the country and the world.

If you like many are worried about today's youth, this video will  assure you that God is moving even now to show our future leaders the Way, the Truth and the Light!

Immanuel Lutheran youth joined 25,000 others from across the country at the 2010 National Youth Convention.  It was a fantastic time!!  Here are some memorable images from this Spirit filled event.

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
